Befriending the Water Elementals

This is the third webinar of a 5 part monthly webinar series. The elementals are those spiritual beings or nature spirits that reside in each of the elements. Different cultures have various names for them. Sometimes they might appear as animal, plant or fairy spirit. It is hard to categorize them.

Thursday 30th Time: 6pm South Africa (Cape Town); 4pm UK (London); 10am EST (New York); 9am Mountain Time (Boulder); 8am PST (Los Angeles). Don’t worry if you can’t make this time. A recording will be sent out afterwards.

Today’s webinar will focus on the Water Elementals and how we can connect with them. We will discuss water spirits, the legend of mermaids, the Irish otherworld Tir na nOg which is often seen as a ‘water world’; and traditional sangoma ways of working with water for divination & initiation.

In my traditional Sangoma culture water is sacred to all our ceremonies. No initiation is complete until we stand at the waters edge of the river, stream or sea. We invoke the water spirits for blessings. It is understood in Africa that water represents life.

This webinar will be dedicated to the memory of Malidoma Somé, a well known scholar and African Shaman who helped educate the Western World about african spirituality. He wrote a classic called ‘Of Water and the Spirit’.

This will be our last webinar of the year. It is fitting that we discuss the Water elementals, one of the most important elements in understanding life on planet earth.

Each Webinar runs as a ceremony with a guided meditation, some chanting and an invocation in isiXhosa to lift the energy. They last 75 mins.

John will give a 20 min talk to introduce this month’s theme. People can then ask questions.
