Time: 2pm Central time, 1pm pacific (Seattle), 4pm EST (New York), 8pm UK (London), 10pm South Africa (Cape Town).

This is part of John's regular uMoya Hour livestreams appearing on FB & YouTube.

Today's discussion will be on Sangomas - traditional healers, Shamans & Soul doctors from Southern Africa. The Sangoma tradition is reputed to be one of the oldest living indigenous shamanic cultures alive on the planet.

John will talk about how someone becomes a sangoma, the illness of calling or ukuthwaza (shamanic illness), the years of apprenticeship and integration into the community.

A person can be called by their ancestors at any time or age to apprentice to become a sangoma. It doesn't matter whether they are 8 or 80 years old, the ancestors don't see age, gender or ethnicity.

John will also discuss the role of a sangoma in a postmodern world.

This livestream will feature live sangoma trance drumming.
