This webinar is in memory of George Floyd & other African Americans who lost their lives due to police brutality and institutional racism.
In South Africa Ubuntu means humanity, ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’. We all have red blood and are all irrevocably connected. With the tragic death of George Floyd at the hands of police brutality in the United States, a second pandemic has been brought to light in the form of prejudice and racism.
Today we will discuss how to become inner activists and de-colonise our minds from the history of collective prejudice and bigotry that we have inherited. How do we do this? By asking ourselves the question, “is it true?” Whenever we have prejudicial or negative thoughts about another person. Often these thoughts are rooted in fear and ignorance. By witnessing them we can change our behavior.
To be an inner activist we have to face our own inner shadows with the courage of a warrior staring the enemy in the face without fear, shame or guilt.
John will share some stories about reconciliation in South Africa involving his lengthy apprenticeship in an all Black township as the only white person. He will also share some powerful stories about Nelson Mandela and how he overcame his own prejudices and emotional anguish.
Each Webinar starts with a guided meditation, some chanting and an invocation in isiXhosa to lift the energy.
John will give a 20 min talk to introduce this month’s theme. People can then ask questions.
